Surprising Africa presented a wide range of internationally acclaimed speakers who have shared their thoughts on culture, design and media with regard to the main theme: ‘What we can learn from Africa’.

Ethan Zuckerman of globalvoicesonline.org gave an inspiring presentation on the innovative role of citizen media during the Kenyan election, showing how a new generation of globally focused digital empowered Africans are fighting old political structures and problems.
Gisel Hiscock, director of Google Africa, explained why Google is developing new businesses in Africa.
Africa 2.0 trend watcher Erik Hersman commented on the mobile revolution that is taking place across Africa and Mark Kamau of the Kilimanjaro Film Institute has described his media-career that started at NairoBits, the highly successful digital design school Butterfly Works founded in the slums of Nairobi.
