Last month Butterfly Works was present in Fez (Morocco) to join the international team composed by Aziza Chaouni and Takako Taji of Bureau EAST, when receiving the prestigious Global Holcim Awards Gold 2009.

The project which concerns rehabilitate the Medina of Fez was selected out of 5000 plans worldwide. At the core of the concept lays the aim to reintegrate the river into the medina as the central lifeline of the city’s urban infrastructure. “We want the medina to still be a living urban environment in the 21st century, not a museum artifact,” she said.

In the coming year Butterfly Works will collaborate with Bureau EAST to develop additional plans with regard to the crafts scene of the old city.
