SAMBAZA PEACE
2009 - ongoing, Kenya
A program that equips young people with alternatives to violence and conflict in their lives.
Original Concept: Butterfly Works and Nairobits
Sambaza Peace is the Kenyan version of the interactive, digital and mobile learning program Words over Weapons, South Africa.
The main objective of this program is to develop a culture of peace amongst young people by providing them with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes needed for harmonious co-existence and non-violent living.
Premised on the theory of behavior change the project recognizes the fundamental role of young people in conflict transformation and community development. Young people are particularly vulnerable to crime and violence both as victims and perpetrators, but they are also important resources in finding effective solutions.
