GETH2O SERIOUS GAMES

2010, ongoing, Global

A serious game which simulates the complexity of life in the slums, the scarcity of resources, how to deal with them and prevent escalation of conflict.

Butterfly Works has developed both a mobile and a board game which deal with the themes of poverty, corruption, water scarcity, crime and community development.

By playing the game, be it the single player mobile phone version or the multi-player board game, it fosters the awareness about how to peacefully handle community problems and options are flagged for common action and possible long-term results. As such, the game provides an engaging, self-reinforcing context in which to motivate and educate players.

Packshot geth2o

Geth2o (Get H2o or water) is a concept which Butterfly Works wishes to apply to other thematic areas and geographical spaces. If you are interested to learn more about the games or how they could be applied to other causes or issues please contact geth2o[at]butterflyworks.org

The board game is also integrated into the curriculum of lessons called Sambaza Peace www.sambazapeace.org and will also be used in youth groups and community centres in order to reach a large audience across Kenya.

The mobile game will be available to download via various mobile portals in Africa. Please join our facebook group for the Geth20 Game for the latest updates or visit the Game's own website www.geth2ogame.com
