CRAFTING PEACE
2008 -ongoing- worldwide
.
CRAFTING PEACE is an international art project in which different parties - from artists to kids - create their own art piece. These art pieces are based on objects stemming from an imaginary world created by Jola Hesselberth, a well-known Dutch artist.
Original concept: Jola Hesselberth and Butterfly Works
CRAFTING PEACE is an effort to reintroduce craft as a current practice in order to allow diversity to be a driving force of local identity as well as a language of commons. We believe that through the craft exchange new lines of communication can be drawn that could benefit us in many ways.
The kick-off of CRAFTING PEACE will be an exhibition of 10 art pieces from artists from all over the world at Maker Faire Africa 2010 (Nairobi, 27th-28th August).
During this event creative workshops for kids will also take place. The outcomes will be the start of the CRAFTING PEACE database. Amongst other purposes, this database will serve as inspirational input for the design of commercial products.
Revenues will be reinvested in the crafts industries of the participating countries.
