PLAY AND LEARN WITH MIFFY
2010 - ongoing, Venezuela
Dick Bruna’s miffy series are his most famous work. The small
bunny with heavy graphic lines in a bold color pallet seems to have a natural
attraction to people all over the world.
Butterfly
Works believes that the vision behind Dick Bruna and his miffy series is
applicable to the world of a child on a universal level, while at the same
time is aware that certain symbols and colors have different meanings in
different cultures.
The first step in this project will be
creating a local picture language based on this. The goal of
this picture language is creating a local character. With this character we
will first of all develop a children’s book for children from 0 – 4 with the
focus on “early child
development”.
Based on ideas and drawings of local children and by using some elements of Dick Bruna's design legacy a first step is made. In a temporary local design studio Butterfly Works will work together with local creative’s, such as illustrators
and writers, and experts, such as a local Early Child Development specialist and will make a first start on this local character and the book. The book will be for children, as well as parents and care takers.
Play and learn with miffy found life in Caracas, Venezuela, where a friend of miffy was born on the 10th of July
2010. His name is Yoyo. It
has been very exciting to find out that the initial analysis behind 'play and
learn with miffy' indeed made sense. At this moment Butterfly Works and the Venezuelan creative team is creating the birthbook of our yoyo. An exciting start.
Hopefully, sometime soon, China will be in labor of a new friend for miffy.
