BUILDING BRIDGES, 650 PEACE PROJECTS
Friday, August 6, 2010
It has been wonderful to see just how many people are working for peace across the country from small to medium sized activities and all with their own local flavour.
A big thanks to Rukia, Tobias and Lilian, the
team who have been working daily on the project in Nairobi. They have
been calling people back who send in sms's, getting more details about
their initiatives, mapping them on the Ushahidi tool, speaking on the
radio and promoting the award by going to peace events and speaking with
people live.
The time slot for submissions is closed for now, as
we select a number of initiatives to reward in a ceremony at the end of
August. Going forward we have cool plans to crowd source support for
the initiatives. As in many of the folk who contacted us spoke of small
needs to take their initiatives to the next level. They need for example
a hall to hold gatherings, or bus money to travel to the next town or
money to buy medals and drinks for football tournaments.
After the award ceremony at the end of August, phase two will start with an extended platform where we will call for people to give support in kind to the peace initiatives already mapped.
