SOLAR MAKERS
Solar Makers aims to improve peoples lives through sharing knowledge about a technology that can save money, provide a safer living environment and lead to a more sustainable future.
Therefore we
make small solar devices and facilitate workhops to liberate the 'Maker'
in the participants. Practical education should inspire those who join
and the technology can easily be harnessed.
Butterfly Works hopes to make a valuable contribution to an eco-friendly Kenya with the Solar Makers project.
Maker Faire Africa
During the Maker Faire Africa 2010, in Nairobi on the 27th & 28th of August, Butterfly Works launched a workshop about solar technology which enabled young Kenyan participants to repower their future.
In the workshop participants learnt about solar technologies and even made their own solar lamp, they finished off the lamp with recycled shades.
Maker Faire Africa was the perfect launching pad for the Solar Makers
workshop concept. With this workshop young people are invited into the
arena of making and fabricating their future.
Perhaps more importantly Solar Makers speaks to the ‘Maker’ in the participant, with the message: this is a technology you can harness. Butterfly Works hopes to make a valuable contribution to an independent and eco-friendly Kenya.
