BURKINABE !SYOU TALENTS IN THE NETHERLANDS

Monday, October 11, 2010

Artist Wilfried de Paul and photographer Francois Ouedraogo from Burkina Faso were in The Netherlands at the end of September to attend several events and more importantly to co-create with Dutch talents and artists.

Wilfried and Francois hardly had the chance to catch their breath after arriving with the busy program in store for them. Not only did they visit the Rijks Academy, on the day of their arrival, the same nite they attended the 'Blend Talent Night' at Amsterdam’s Pakhuis de Zwijger. Together with other creatives they gained honest and effective feedback about their portfolio from over 25 established Masters designers and creatives.

During their week in Amsterdam they worked together with different Dutch makers, such as photographer Nathalie Hennis and painter Merijn Kavelaars. On Thursday the 30th the opening of the exhibition 'A’DAM Men & Fashion' at the Amsterdam Museum of History took place. This exhibition focuses on men and their clothes in Amsterdam down through the centuries. Part of the exhibition was the XXL co-design project ‘SYOUCUBE’, painted by Wilfried. A pair os !SYOUs was handed over to Tygo Gernandt, famous Dutch actor and artist. The SYOUCUBE is a portable store where !SYOU’s story can be seen and where you can order your own pair of shoes.

Black ink on white paper, heavy lines accentuated with detailed figures, De Paul’s imagination is astonishing. !SYOU is all about co-design, so he teamed up with Dutch artist Merijn Kavelaars to co-design a unique piece of art, which was revealed on Friday at the Concrete Store in Amsterdam.

Francois photographed the Burkina !SYOU collection together with the well-known Dutch photographers Petrovsky & Ramone. He also made a series of photos at the various !SYOU events, equipped with the camera he bought with the money he earned through the return-model of !SYOU. The trip was made possible by The Mondriaan Foundation.
